Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Here’s a real fun song to play. It’s got three finger galloping and synthesized tapping. And it’s just a great song. I remember when I first heard Muse that they sounded like a bit of a Radiohead ripoff, but when I heard the whole Black Holes and Revelations album it rocked my world. It’s proggy and poppy at the same time and there’s some really great musicianship. They rely a great deal on synthesized bass tones. I’d really like to pick up a bass synth at some point. There’s one in particular called the Moogerflooger which is basically an analog Moog synthesizer without the keyboard. I ran my bass through an old friend’s Moog and it sounded ridiculous. Of course, those things are not cheap and I have other gear needs ahead of that. But anyway, back to Knights of Cydonia…

It is an awesome video. Muse is one of my dirty pleasures - I didn’t like them all that much when I heard them at first but they’re actually incredibly talented.
If you really want a challenge on bass - check out the song “Newborn” by them. My old band used to cover it - and the guitar part is pretty easy - but the bass part is just wicked. Made me chuckle as I played the same few riffs over and over again and Ffej (I don’t know why, but we called him jeff backwards) had to use all of his talent and concentration to play it.
Which album is Newborn on? I’ll be posting one of my guilty pleasures a little bit later
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you - silly ice storm power outages and all! It’s off of origins of symmetry - one of their better albums I might add (who am I kidding though, I like them all!)
